Functioning of various wings of DIET Kurukshetra:-

District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kurukshetra, like other DIETs in India, functions as a key institution for the improvement of elementary and secondary education. It supports pre-service and in-service teacher education, curriculum development, educational research, and innovation at the district level.

DIET Kurukshetra operates through multiple specialized branches or “wings,” each focusing on a specific aspect of teacher education and school improvement. 

Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE) Wing

➢ To organise a pre-service course (D.El.Ed. of two years duration) for primary teachers & to provide academic inputs in various subjects and co-curricular activities as mentioned in the D.El.Ed. curriculum, Department of Education, Haryana. New roles and responsibilities in the present scenario are mentioned below as D.El.Ed course has been withdrawn from the DIETs by the department:-

New Roles and Responsibilities:

➢ Management of School Internship Programme (SIP) of D.El.Ed course in self-financed institutions of the district. This task has been assigned by the Board of School Education Haryana. PSTE dept. organises orientation programmes for the students of these colleges. Monitoring of SIP is also being done by the faculty of PSTE dept.

➢ Monitoring of self-financed institutions.

➢ Supervision of D.El.Ed exam in the district.

➢ Spot Evaluation Centres have been established in the DIETs by the BSEH Bhiwani for the evaluation of answer books of D.El.Ed exam. All staff members of DIET faculty also do the work of spot evaluation.

➢ Organisation of capacity building programmes for the teacher educators of self-financed institutes.

➢ To provide academic inputs pertaining to pedagogical issues in various in–service programmes for elementary teachers whose content relates exclusively to the subjects represented in the branch (as mentioned in the D.El.Ed. curriculum) or to its other areas of nodal responsibility, such as AE/NFE, etc.
    Some areas are follows:
    ■ Psychological counselling & guidance such as – Understanding learner’s behaviour at childhood, pre-adolescent & adolescent stages.
    ■ Case study
    ■ Growth and development
    ■ Personality development
    ■ Habits, traits, interests, attitudes
    ■ Development of self-concept, mental health, adjustment, etc.
    ■ Individual differences
    ■ Creativity and aesthetic appreciation, etc.
    ■ Learning process in various subjects
    ■ All general matters concerning teaching methodology and pedagogy
    ■ Content of various subjects
    ■ Action Research to improve learning
    ■ Preparation of low cost teaching aids.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

➢ Maintenance of Science lab, psychological equipment, art & craft room, equipment and facilities for sports and physical education.

Co-Curricular Activities:

➢ Organizing and promoting various co-curricular activities in the institute and various schools of the district (extension work during mentoring of schools), e.g.
    ■ Effective morning assembly
    ■ Debates and elocution, speech competition, etc.
    ■ Science exhibition
    ■ Eco club activities
    ■ Cultural/literary club activities
    ■ Excursion visits to various places for pre-service students
    ■ Visual and performing arts
    ■ Sports festival
    ■ Various tutorial group activities as mentioned in the D.El.Ed. curriculum
    ■ Consumer Club activities.
