Functioning of various wings of DIET Kurukshetra:-

District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kurukshetra, like other DIETs in India, functions as a key institution for the improvement of elementary and secondary education. It supports pre-service and in-service teacher education, curriculum development, educational research, and innovation at the district level.

DIET Kurukshetra operates through multiple specialized branches or “wings,” each focusing on a specific aspect of teacher education and school improvement. 

District Resource Unit (DRU) Wing / Population Education & Girls Education

The DRU Wing of DIET Kurukshetra is committed to promoting inclusive and equitable education, with a special emphasis on girls’ education and marginalized communities. It focuses on social awareness, empowerment, and life skill development to build a more just and informed society.

Data Maintenance Responsibilities:

➢ To maintain data (3–14 age group) about non-starters, dropouts, and school-going children in the district.

➢ In the light of recommendations of NEP 2020 pertaining to the pre-primary part of the foundational stage, proper record will be maintained about various types of information regarding ‘Anganwadi Kendras’ / ICDS functionaries such as:
    ■ List of Anganwadi centres in the district & their enrollment.
    ■ List of various ICDS functionaries such as P.O., CDPOs, supervisors, and workers working in the district.
    ■ Working schedule and activity schedule/content of A.W. centres.

Monitoring and Mentoring:

➢ Mentoring of Anganwadi centres.

➢ Monitoring of various AIE (Alternative & Innovative Education) centres in the district.

➢ Monitoring of Play Schools.

Record Maintenance Responsibilities:

➢ Record of various types of information about SSA and its functionaries in the district.

➢ Maintenance of record about various types of information regarding AIE centres, such as:
    ■ List of all NGOs running AIE centres in the district.
    ■ List of all AIE centres and their instructors.
    ■ No. of students studying in AIE centres (age group 6–11 & 11–14).
    ■ Knowledge about course schedule/curriculum of AIE centres in the district.

➢ To maintain a database of all AIE personnel who undergo training at the institute.

➢ Maintenance of record about various types of information regarding ‘Play Schools’.

Collaboration and Coordination:

➢ Coordination with organisations working in the field of IED (Integrated Education for Disabled) in the district.

➢ Coordination with various NGOs working in the field of education.

➢ Coordination with Zila Saksharta Samiti (ZSS), i.e., information about various programmes (post-literacy programmes) run by it. Monitoring of these programmes will also be done by DRU.

Support and Training:

➢ To assist educational authorities in carrying out various awareness programmes in the district, e.g., AIDS, Polio, Drug Abuse, Road Safety, POCSO, etc.

➢ To assist educational authorities (SCERT, HSSPP, etc.) in planning and coordination of training programmes for AIE personnel throughout the district.

Educational and Social Activities:

➢ Organisation of various activities in the district such as:
■ Youth Parliament
■ Yoga competitions
■ Celebration of various days in the district
■ Other competitions of this nature pertaining to Population Education and Social Sciences dept. of SCERT.

Research:

➢ To undertake action research in relevant areas in collaboration with other departments, to the extent necessary.
